Decluttering can be overwhelming—especially when emotions are tied to belongings. One of the hardest parts is deciding what stays and what goes. Here’s a simple system to help you make those tough decisions with less stress.
Step 1: Ask the 3 Key Questions
When handling an item, ask yourself:
• Do I use this regularly?
• Do I love this or does it bring me joy?
• Do I have space for it without causing clutter?
If the answer is no to all three, it may be time to let it go.
Step 2: Create 3 Piles—Keep, Donate, Toss
• Keep: Things you use often or truly love.
• Donate: Items in good condition that someone else could use.
• Toss: Broken, expired, or damaged items that no longer serve a purpose.
Step 3: Start Small
Pick one drawer, one shelf, or one box. Starting small prevents overwhelm and builds momentum.
Step 4: Be Honest About “Just in Case” Items
If you haven’t used it in over a year, chances are you won’t. Trust that if you truly need it again, you can replace it.
Step 5: Celebrate Progress
Decluttering isn’t just about getting rid of stuff—it’s about creating space for peace, clarity, and freedom in your home.
By using a simple system, you can make decluttering decisions without second-guessing. And remember: donating gently used items helps others while freeing your space.
